I can't believe that the summer has gone so fast!!! Thank the Lord above that football is now here!!! Here are my picks for tonight. I will post all my selections is one trend so that they are easy to find!!!

3 Units Atlanta Falcons UNDER 33.5 -109

A new coach (Atlanta's Jim Mora, Jr.) tangles with NFL veteran Brian Billick's Ravens. Atlanta's defense should see improvement under the new coach as he was the defensive coordinator of the 49ers last season when they finished 13th overall in total 'D'. Last year the Falcons were simply miserable, ranking last in the NFL in defense. For this game, QB Michael Vick will play one series in the first quarter before turning the offense over to rookie Matt Schaub, who will play into the fourth quarter. The Ravens play a conservative run-oriented offense and will look at QBs Kyle Boller, Kordell Stewart and rookie Josh Harris. Brian Billick is 12-7 straight up and 11-8 against the spread as head coach in preseason. A year ago Baltimore played at Atlanta in August and won 13-10 as a +4 dog. That game went far under the total and expect another close, low scoring defensive clash here.

5 Units St Louis Rams -3.5 +109

Coming off a 7-9 season, Bears fans continue to wonder why ”da Bears” rebuilding effort is taking longer than building the “Great Wall of China”. Defensive guru Lovie Smith arrives in Chi-town with a new defensive scheme and several new bodies to make the rebuild go a bit quicker. Smith was the defensive coordinator for Mike Martz in St. Louis the last few years, so the coaching staffs are familiar with each other. Rex Grossman will have the weight of the windy city on his shoulders after throwing 72 passes last season (2 TDs, one INT). QB Jonathan Quinn, who knows the system, is now the most experienced veteran quarterback on the roster. Injuries are becoming a concern as Smith's systems are being put in place. Brian Urlacher has been told his pulled right hamstring will take 4-6 weeks to heal. Rams QB Marc Bulger will look to improve on his league leading 3,845 passing yards, and 22 touchdown passes from last season but starters won't see much more than a quarter on Thursday as coaches look for the "rooks" to shine in the early preseason. Rams are a more veteran team right now and the Bears are searching for an identity.

Friday

I really like the next two day's preseason cards!!! Here are tonight's selections:

7 Units New York Giants -2.5 -121

Word from the Giants training camp in Albany is that the decision at quarterback will be more difficult for Tom Coughlin than originally thought. Eli Manning is the real deal and Kurt Warner still knows how to get a team into the end zone. The Giants will be as good as their offensive line which still appears to have holes. Defensively, a talented aray of ballhawkers will keep the Giants in most games. Kansas City had the No. 2 offense in the NFL last season and should have a devastating offense again. QB Trent Green passed for 4,039 yards in Vermiel's wide-open offense, with 24 TDs and only 12 INTs. Although, for this game KCs WRs are thin: Dick Vermeil said he didn't expect Johnnie Morton, Eddie Kennison or Marc Boerigter to be available for the Giants game. The Chiefs averaged 30.3 points per game, 248 yards passing and 120 yards rushing per game. QB Rotation: Trent Green (1st Q) and Todd Collins (2nd-3rd Qs) will get the bulk of the playing time. Vermeil said the first team offense would play about one quarter while the defense may work into the second quarter against the Giants. Defense is another story as the Chiefs had the 29th ranked defense in 2003 and was 30th against the run, allowing 146.5 yards rushing per game. KC Coach Dick Vermeil is 11-9 SU, 12-8 ATS in preseason. Look for more offense than defense in this August tune-up with all the offensive weapons each team possesses.

7 Units New York Jets +2.5 -104

5 Units New York Jets +2.5 OVER 35.5 -104

The Jets couldn't stop anybody (28th against the run) last season and were riddled with injuries. Herm Edwards is looking for a more physical defensive approach and run preseason camp with more contact. QB Chad Pennington will only see limited action on Friday and Brooks Bollinger is the backup. They still have RB Curtis Martin (1,308 yards) who averaged 4 yards per carry, but just 2 rushing TDs. New York ranked 12th in sacks (after being 25th in 2002) but was awful against the run, allowing 143 yds rushing per game! For the Saints, the offense is banged up a bit: QBs Todd Bouman (abdominal strain) and Aaron Brooks (quadriceps) are not 100%. Also, the wide receivers are thin with Nathan Black (groin), Derrick Lewis (hamstring) and Germane Crowell hurting. Crowell has missed 8 straight practices. The Saints had trouble stopping the run a year ago, as well, and now have one of the deepest units in the league but the new linebacking crew is only "ok" at this time and stopping the run may be an issue once again. Jets coach Herman Edwards seems to take preseason seriously, the Jets are 9-4 SU/ATS in August under him. Also, the Saints were 3-1 over the total in preseason last year, and this game is indoors on turf with more offensive weapons than defensive ones. The Jets appear more healthy offensively.

5 Units New England Patriots -3 -101

The NFL has thrown out a possible preview of the Super Bowl in the first exhibition game to attract viewers attention. The problem is that the starters for these teams will be around for only a short time as both have plenty of veterans resting early. QB Donovan McNabb will be followed in the rotation by Jeff Blake who will challenge Koy Detmer for the No. 2 quarterback job. Detmer has been the backup for four years, but newcomer Blake has considerably more playing experience and a stronger arm. Eagles Coach Andy Reid hasn't been particularly concerned about preseason wins over the past couple of years: 7-12 SU/9-10 ATS as head coach in August for Reid. Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady leads the cohesive Patriots offense, but this is preseason and after a couple of series he'll give way to Kliff Kingsbury and Rohan Davey. New England Coach Bill Bellichick has had a workmanlike approach to the early preseason games as he's 24-13 SU, 22-15-1 ATS in August as head coach of the Browns and Patriots! The Pats were 4-0 SU/ATS in preseason a year ago. One of those wins was a 24-12 win at Philly last August 22 as a +3 dog. That game went under the total. The Pats were 8-0 at home last season, 12-0 counting pre and post season.

The server here at the RX sinks!!! I have tried to post my selections the last two hours!!! Here are the games that I will be playing tonight.

POSTS 4-2 +10.72

Here are tonights selections:

5 Units Pittsburgh Steelers +3 -102

7 Units Pittsburgh Steelers OVER 35.5 -110

After a rough year (6-10 SU, 8-8 ATS in 2003), it was a very eventful offseason in Pittsburgh as the Steelers got one of the prized quarterbacks in the draft in Big Ben Roethlisberger (Miami of Ohio) with the No. 11 overall pick. He will battle with QB Tommy Maddox this preseason but is clearly the future for the Steelers' offense. Pittsburgh still has a remarkable collection of speedy young receivers, and this is a good spot for a high scoring game. Pitt has two talented QBs battling it out and Detroit and coach Steve Mariucci like to throw the ball and have loads of speed at the skill positions, led by rookie WR Roy Williams (Texas) and WR Charles Rogers. Both defenses are hurting, too, with the Lions having a shortage at CB. Bill Cowher is 26-22 ATS in preseason, Mariucci is 13-18 ATS. Look for more offense than 'D' in a fun game.

10 Units Washington Redskins -3.5 +107

It appears that in any given season, any team can rise to almost winning the Super Bowl. Or so it would seem after John Fox led the Panthers to within a field goal of hoisting the Lombardi Trophy last season. Jake Delhomme is firmly fasted in the pilot seat in the Cats run oriented offense anchored by a strong set of lines. John Fox is 5-3 SU, 6-2 ATS in preseason, inlcuding 4-0 SU/ATS a year ago. Joe Gibbs returned to the sidelines Monday when the Redskins defeated the Broncos 20-17. Both teams struggled, but the third-stringers performed well enough in the fourth quarter to carry matters to the final gun. Mark Brunell (4-for-8 for 18 yards) wasn't particularly impressive in a short stint. Matt Hasselbeck led the winning drive. For this game, QB Patrick Ramsey will start, Mark Brunell will follow in the 2nd Q, while Tim Hasselbeck and Gibran Hamdan mop up. It appears that the Skins have some good depth and games appear easy after the tough Gibbs training camp. Washington at home should handle the upstart Panthers and remember conservative Carolina was 3-1 under the total last preseason.

10 Units Oakland Raiders -3 -110

Just a year removed from the Super Bowl, the Raiders look for a quick turnaround after a brutal 4-12 SU/3-12-1 ATS 2003 campaign. They hope to improve behind QBs Rich Gannon, Marcus Tuiasosopo and Tee Martin, who will see time here (Oakland had the 25th overall offense -- 27th passing). That's quite a fall. The arrival of new coach Norv Turner and QB Kerry Collins from the Giants could restart the stalled vertical Raiders offense. The defense was worse (30th in the NFL) and dead last against the run giving up 157 yds rushing pg, but the Raiders have totally overhauled the 'D'. They signed 365-lb Ted Washington from the Super Bowl champion Patriots along with Warren Sapp. The Niners are without injured QB Tom Rattay. For this game, QB Ken Dorsey will play the first quarter and into the second, Brandon Doman will come in late in the second quarter and 3rd Q, while rookie QB Cody Pickett plays the 4th. The 49ers were 6-2 SU/5-3 ATS at San Francisco last season. The young talent suggests a strong showing by Oakland and its new coach, although 49ers coach Dennis Erickson is 15-7 SU, 14-8 ATS in preseason. San Fran was 3-1 under the total last August, as well.

5 Units Tennessee Titans -3 -115

Both defenses have been banged up the last few weeks, so this might be a spot for the offenses to shine. Cleveland has a revamped offense with new QB Jeff Garcia, who will start, while Kelly Holcomb, Todd Husak, Nate Hybl and rookie Luke McCown will share time. But the defense is hurting with DE Courtney Brown (knee), and LBs Chaun Thompson (wrist) and Brant Boyer (fractured foot) hurting (Boyer is out.) Butch Davis is just 5-7 SU/6-6 ATS in preseason. The Tennessee Titans will rotate QBs Steve McNair, Billy Volek and Jason Gesser, but the defense is ailing: Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth (foot), DE Bo Schobel (foot), CB Tony Beckham (knee), LB Brad Kassell (leg) and S Tom Wright (ankle) are hurting and missed some practice this week. Coach Jeff Fisher was 4-0 SU/ATS in preseason a year ago and 18-15 SU, 18-14-1 ATS overall in August.

5 Units San Diego Chargers +3 -105

Certainly a long road trip for Indianapolis. Coach Tony Dungy is 17-16 SU, 16-16-1 ATS in preseason. In this tune-up game, the Colts will rotate QBs Peyton Manning, Corey Sauter, Jim Sorgi and Joe Hamilton. The San Diego Chargers don't have that luxury: Only QBs Drew Brees and Cleo Lemon are healthy (Doug Flutie is out two weeks and rookie Philip Rivers is holding out.) San Diego coach Marty Schottenheimer is not so hot in preseason at 35-34 SU and 30-39 ATS. Tough game to call, as it's a long trip for the Colts who are more interested in staying healthy at this stage. Likely more offense than defense, especially with San Diego's two QBs seeing a lot of time.

7 Units Minnesota Vikings -5 -110

7 Units Minnesota Vikings OVER 37 -101

Another team in the rebuild process, Arizona has new coach Dennis Green at the controls and a bevy of untested quarterbacks ready to do business. Josh McCown is the starter, even though he has just three starts in his two NFL seasons. Veteran Shaun King is No. 2 behind McCown and seventh round draft selection John Navarre (Michigan). But who will catch the ball? Rookie No. 1 pick Larry Fitzgerald from Pittsburgh is alone, because WR Bryant Johnson is out with a stress fracture in his right foot and WR Anquan Boldin hurt his knee this week and is out. Arizona was 0-8 SU/ATS on the road a year ago in the regular season, though that was under Dave McGinness. Remember that on the final play of the Vikings' regular season, the Cardinals knocked Minnesota out of playoff contention by converting a 28-yard, fourth-down touchdown pass for an 18-17 victory and many current Minnesota players experienced that. The Vikings offense, led by QB Daunte Culpepper, will remain pretty much intact, but defensive changes are in order and HC Mike Tice used the draft for the defensive side of the ball. Expect the Vikings to have a vivid memory of last year's season-ender. On the other hand, Minnesota head coach Mike Tice is 3-5 ATS in preseason and was 0-2 ATS at home last preseason. In fact, one of those preseason losses in August 2003 was on this field against Arizona and the Cardinals pulled a 31-27 upset as a +6 dog. That game went way over the total and this one could, as well, with the strong offenses and rebuilding defenses.

THURSDAY

Here are my selections:

7 Units Carolina Panthers -3

5 Units Carolina Panthers OVER 34

The Tom Coughlin era in New York began with an eratic "W" last week in a 34-24 over the Kansas City Chiefs when a resurrected Ron Dayne stepped up with a couple of impressive touchdown runs of 29 and 67 yards. He finished with 11 carries for 118 yards. Kurt Warner and Eli Manning performed adequately. Manning will make his first professional start this game, with Warner following. Manning will play at least halfway through the second quarter and possibly the first half. Warner will follow and play into the third quarter, Palmer will play the 4th. Injuries at the linebacker position could be a factor in preseason. The defense had lapses against the Chiefs but overall the G-men looked pretty good for an opening game. The Panthers come off an overtime win over the Redskins 23-20. Second-round pick Keary Colbert caught two long touchdown passes from Chris Weinke to set the pace. Carolina used their starters for just one quarter in their first preseason action. Carolina is on a 5-0 SU, 4-1 ATS run in preseason action going back to last August.

FRIDAY

Here are tonights selections:

10 Units Minnesota Vikings +1 +101

5 Units Minnesota Vikings OVER 39 -110

The potent Vikings offense started the preseason like a house of fire as Daunte Culpepper threw a 48-yard touchdown pass to Randy Moss early in the second quarter, and Minnesota spoiled Dennis Green's return to the sidelines with a 23-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. Gus Frerotte added 136 yards on 9-16 throwing and the Minnesota defense dominated the line of scrimmage with 7 sacks. The Ravens flew to a 24-0 rout of the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday. Michael Vick, who last year broke his right fibula in a 13-10 preseason loss to the Ravens, took the first three offensive snaps of the contest without any harm. He didn't throw one pass and was sacked for a nine-yard loss in his only series of the evening. Quarterback Matt Schaub, a rookie out of Virginia, took the bulk of the snaps for the Falcons, completing 12-of-24 passes for 108 yards with two interceptions. Coach Jim Mora said all starters, including Vick, probably will play more than a quarter Friday. Expect Schaub's learning experience to be filled with more bumps and bruises as Tice builds an early winning tradition. Both secondaries lost a key player this week (Vikings CB Brian Williams, knee, will miss the rest of the preseason, while Atlanta's safety Keion Carpenter is lost for season). Could be a lot of points in this game on carpet in the Georgia Dome.

5 Units Tampa Bay Buccaneers +3 -110

5 Units Tampa Bay Buccaneers UNDER 34 +101

Both teams feature better defenses than offenses and both openers went under the total last week. Jacksonville mustered just 5 points in a 16-5 loss at Miami, while Tampa Bay won 20-6 at home over Cincy. For Tampa Bay, QB Brad Johnson will start, Brian Griese will follow Johnson in the first half and Chris Simms will enter in the third quarter. Tampa Bay is 8-2 SU, 5-4-1 ATS in August under Jon Gruden. One concern is that the Bucs are hurting at wide receiver, with Keenan McCardell (holdout), Joe Jurevicius (knee), Charles Lee (Hamstring) and Joey Galloway (Knee) ailing or missing. Jacksonville's offense struggled against Miami last week and it doesn't get any easier against Tampa Bay this week. Also, the Jaguars offensive line is thin. These teams met in preseason a year ago and Tampa Bay won 10-6 in a game that went way under the total. With two strong defenses and ailing offenses, look for another low scoring defensive battle.

5 Units Baltimore Ravens +3 -104

5 Units Baltimore Ravens UNDER 35 -110

Brian Billick's preseason winning ways (13-7 SU, 12-8 ATS) continued last week in a 24-0 rout of the Atlanta Falcons who saved Michael Vick for another day. Vick played just one series against the Ravens who dominated defensively. Daniel Wilcox hauled in two touchdown passes and Fred Weary returned an interception for a score, leading Baltimore. QB Kyle Boller finished 5-of-9 for 56 yards, including a 12- yard touchdown pass. Kordell Stewart, who was making his Baltimore debut, added a 10-yard scoring strike for the Ravens. Jamal Lewis, the NFL's 2003 leading ground gainer, rushed just six times for 14 yards perhaps thinking of the news he received prior to kickoff. It was announced last week, that Lewis' drug conspiracy trial was set for November 1. New England rolled over Philadelphia, 24-6 last week, which means Eagles coach Andy Reid is now 7-13 SU, 9-11 ATS in preseason. In limited action, Donovan McNabb completed 6-of-11 passes for 32 yards. Philadelphia had seven players leave the field due to injury, but all x-rays were negative. The Ravens defense appears dominant and the Eagles won't risk McNabb for long, so don't look for an offensive shootout. The Eagles are just 2-7 ATS at home in their last nine preseason games!!!

MONDAY

Here are tonight's selections:

10 Units Kansas City -4 +101

10 Units Kansas City OVER 42 -106

Likely a lot of points in this game. Both coaches preach aggressive, wide-open, spread-formation offenses. The Rams mustered 222 passing yards last week, but had only 10 points in a home loss to Chicago because of 2 turnovers and little running attack (84 yards). QBs Marc Bulger, Chris Chandler and Jeff Smoker completed 18-of-29 passes and they get to face a rebuilding Chiefs defense that was shredded last week by the Giants (185 rushing yards allowed, 7.4 ypc). And speaking of shredded, that's what the Chiefs starting offense did to the Giants with 461 total yards, 24 first half points and 311 first-half yards! QBs Trent Green, Todd Collins and Casey Clausen appear in mid-season form. Coach Dick Vermeil is playing the starters even more this game, possibly the entire first half. The Chiefs are 5-1 Su, 4-2 ATS at home in preseason the last three years and Mike Martz is 6-12 SU, 7-11 ATS in preseason.
